If you’re anything like me, then you find the new Facebook black lightbox viewer completely annoying. I appreciate that Facebook is trying to improve on our user experience when viewing images, but the lightbox just doesn’t work for me.
Unfortunately Facebook does not allow users to disable the lightbox, however there are other ways you can disable the lightbox viewer.
Hit Refresh (F5)
The best way to get rid of the lightbox is by pressing F5 (or the refresh button in the browser). Refreshing the page allows you to view photos in the old style (no lightbox!). This is effective until you navigate into another album.
Chrome Browser Extension
Unfortunately Switching to another album will bring back the lightbox, and you will have to hit refresh or F5 again. If you really have it against the lightbox feature and you don’t want to hit F5 or refresh every time you go into a new album you can install the Revert FB Photo Viewer browser extensions.
I don’t need to go as far as to install an extension to fix this problem, but I figured some people would rather just have a browser extension to take care of the problem for them.
